The Indian Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) declared on October 24, 2024, that the quality control orders for acrylonitrile, maleic anhydride, and styrene (vinyl benzene), which were initially set to start on October 24, 2024, would now start on October 24, 2025, one year later. By giving manufacturers and other industry participants more time to adjust to the new requirements, this postponement aims to guarantee that everyone can completely comply with the future rules within the allotted period.
Manufacturers of these chemicals are required to apply for licenses from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) following the implementation of these QCOs. The standard mark required by the license must be shown on the items. Chemicals that are exclusively meant for export are not subject to the orders. These new directives must be followed by all pertinent manufacturers. Those who disregard the directives will face consequences in line with the 2016 Bureau of Indian Standards Act (BIS Act) requirements.
By improving the domestic chemical market’s quality and regulatory uniformity, this strategy hopes to foster long-term market stability and establish a strong basis for future industrial growth.
