The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) plans to expand its Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) by adding six substances from January 6, 2025, taking the total to 248. Octamethyltrisiloxane is among the new additions.
The Member State Committee (MSC), in its recent meeting, also discussed prioritization for the Authorization List and unanimously approved an evaluation of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol along with three compliance check decisions.
The details are as follows:
Businesses handling products with SVHCs should note:
- A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) must be provided when selling standalone SVHCs.
- An SDS is required if an SVHC forms ≥0.1% of a mixture.
- Detailed information must be shared within 45 days if a product contains >0.1% by weight of an SVHC.
- If a product contains a single SVHC >0.1% by weight and is exported over 1 ton annually, ECHA must be notified within six months.
- Products with >0.1% SVHC must be reported to SCIP from January 5, 2021, as per the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD).
The Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHC) now contains 248 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment. Companies are responsible for managing the risks of these chemicals and giving customers and consumers information on their safe use.
