India’s Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) has announced a delay in the enforcement of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for toluene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) homopolymers, and polypropylene (PP) materials used in molding and extrusion. The revised timeline allows manufacturers to continue production, storage, and trade of these chemicals under the current regulations until the updated standards come into effect.
The postponement aims to provide manufacturers and industry stakeholders with additional time to prepare for the stricter quality standards. This decision ensures that all parties are adequately equipped to comply with the new requirements.
Upon implementation of these QCOs, manufacturers of toluene, PVC homopolymers, and PP materials will be required to obtain licenses from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Products must display the standard mark issued under the license. However, these orders will not apply to chemicals solely intended for export.
All applicable manufacturers must adhere to these new regulations. Non-compliance will result in penalties as outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act (BIS Act), 2016.
