India Postpones Quality Control Orders for Eight Chemicals, Plans Phased Implementation of New Regulations

In March, 2025, India’s Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) announced a revised timeline for enforcing Quality Control Orders (QCOs) on eight key chemicals. This extension is intended to give industries more time to comply with the new regulations, facilitate a smoother transition to updated standards, and maintain market supply stability.

The official notice outlines the updated enforcement dates and corresponding standards for these chemicals as follows:

Once these QCOs take effect, manufacturers of the specified chemicals must obtain licenses from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and ensure their products carry the standard mark under the issued license. These regulations do not apply to chemicals designated solely for export. However, all relevant manufacturers operating in the domestic market must comply with the new orders. Non-compliance will result in penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act (BIS Act), 2016.
