The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) in India recently announced the revocation of three Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and the extension of implementation timelines for two others.

Revoked QCOs

 

These QCOs, which had required BIS certification for the import, manufacture, and sale of the specified chemicals, were revoked effective July 23, 2025, following consultations with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the BIS Act of 2016.

QCOs with Delayed Implementation Dates

The implementation of these two QCOs has been deferred to May 13, 2026, replacing the earlier deadlines and providing additional time for affected industries to prepare.

Once in effect, manufacturers of the specified chemicals will be required to obtain licenses from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and products must display the BIS standard mark. These requirements will not apply to chemicals produced solely for export.

All relevant manufacturers must ensure compliance with the orders, as failure to do so will result in penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
