In July, 2024, Vietnam approved the National Environmental Protection Plan for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050. This comprehensive plan aims to strengthen environmental protection efforts and ensure sustainable development across the country, advancing towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

The overall goals raised by this document include the prevention and control of pollution and environmental degradation; restoration and enhancement of environmental quality; preservation of biodiversity; establishment of nature and biodiversity protection zones; and the promotion of a green, circular, and low-carbon economy. The plan also emphasizes the importance of building environmental monitoring networks and fostering a proactive response to climate change.
