Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)

What is TSCA?

In order to ensure that laws and regulations are followed during the manufacture (including import), processing, distribution in commerce, use, or disposal of chemical substances, EPA collaborates with its federal, state, and tribal regulatory partners. The Toxic Substances Control Act is the primary specific law that regulates chemical substances (TSCA).

TSCA addresses the production, importation, use, and disposal of specific chemicals including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), asbestos, radon and lead-based paint.

Once the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act was passed in 2016, it has been more than five years since TSCA was modified.
