Background on the Microplastics Restriction

In an effort to lessen the damage that synthetic polymer microparticles, or “microplastics,” cause to the environment and marine ecosystems, the European Commission formally implemented Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 (the “Microplastics Restriction Regulation”) on October 17, 2023. The main focus of the law is “microplastics used on their own or intentionally added to products,” and the main prohibitions apply to plastic glitter, detergents, and microplastic components in cosmetics.
