Updates to Korea’s Temporary Narcotic Substance List

In South Korea, ALEPH-4 has been classified as a temporary narcotics substance and will be prohibited from April 6, 2025, to March 31, 2028.

The designation of ALEPH-4, specifically 1-(2,5-Dimethoxy-4-propan-2-ylsulfanylphenyl)propan-2-amine, as Group 2 temporary narcotics that is, “Substances likely to result in physical or psychological harm or danger by causing dependence thereon” was announced by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) on April 7, 2025.

According to Article 5-2 of the Narcotics Control Act, temporary narcotics are prohibited from the following activities:

  • Cultivating, extracting, producing, exporting, importing, or transporting or holding them for such purposes; trading, aiding in the trade of them, supplying, receiving, or carrying them for such reasons;
  • Carrying, owning, using, transporting, managing, administering, or storing them; giving other people access to locations, facilities, tools, money, or transportation for the illegal activities associated with Group 1 or Group 2 temporary drugs.

The bans will go into effect no later than three years from the designation’s effective date. The bans for ALEPH-4 are in effect from April 6, 2025, to March 31, 2028. There are currently 107 different kinds of temporary drugs on the list, and each one is prohibited for a certain amount of time.
