The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has unveiled two new draft sustainability reporting standards focused on labor-related issues, with an emphasis on tackling discrimination and safeguarding workers’ human rights.
As one of the most widely adopted global frameworks for corporate sustainability disclosure, GRI Standards—developed by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB)—enable consistent and transparent reporting across industries for a wide range of stakeholders, including investors.
The newly proposed standards include:
· Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity – Addressing both direct and indirect discrimination, this standard outlines the root causes and requires detailed reporting on incidents of discrimination.
· Diversity and Inclusion – Focused on enhancing transparency around organizational efforts to integrate diversity and inclusion into strategy and operations through specific disclosures and metrics.
These standards are part of GRI’s broader Labor Project, launched by the GSSB in 2022, which aims to update eight labor-related standards in total. The goal is to help organizations communicate how they manage their most significant labor impacts, including employment practices, working conditions, career development, and the protection of workers’ rights.
The public consultation on the draft standards is now open and will run through September 15, 2025. Final versions of the standards are expected to begin releasing from mid-2026.
