ROHS Compliance

On 14 October 2025, under Section 74 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, the Executive Director of the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) formally launched an assessment of the introduction and use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australia.

The assessment will review 522 PFAS listed on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC) to determine whether these substances are already present in Australia. If confirmed, further verification will be required regarding the quantities imported or manufactured and their specific uses, in order to identify chemicals that may need additional evaluation.

Who must provide PFAS information? Enterprises that completed AICIS registration between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2025 will receive a written notice from the Executive Director. These enterprises must:

· Check the 522 PFAS against the industrial chemicals inventory.

· Confirm whether they have introduced any of the listed PFAS.

· Report relevant findings to AICIS.

· If introduction has occurred, submit detailed information for each chemical.

This assessment is now part of the AICIS Rolling Action Plan.

Information required:

· Whether the registrant has introduced any of the listed PFAS via import or manufacture.

· For each introduced PFAS: CAS number, chemical name, mode of introduction (import/manufacture), total volume, and end use.

· If certain information cannot be provided, an explanation must be submitted.

· Registrants are also encouraged to voluntarily supply additional information relevant to the Executive Director’s evaluation (e.g., data from earlier registration years).

Submission timeline: All requested PFAS information must be submitted within 40 working days from the date of the notice.
