ROHS Compliance

On November 19, 2025, China’s National Health Commission issued an announcement approving 14 “Three New Foods,” including Fusarium venenatum protein. In accordance with the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, expert reviewers evaluated and approved safety assessment materials for:

· 3 new food ingredients,

· 8 novel food additives, and

· 3 new varieties of food-related products (food contact materials).

New Food Ingredients

· Fusarium venenatum Protein

· Elderberry Anthocyanins

· Olive Fruit Polyphenols

Novel Food Additives

· Branching Enzyme

· β-Alanine

· (6S)-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate, Glucosamine Salt

· 6S-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate Calcium

· Steviol Glycosides (Enzymatic Conversion)

· Steviol Glycosides (Fermentation Method)

· 2’-Fucosyllactose

· Calcium Carbonate (Algal Source)

 

New Food Contact Materials

1. C.I. Pigment White 21; Barium Sulfate

Previously approved under GB 9685-2016 for use in coatings, paper, rubber, inks, adhesives, and plastics such as PE and PP.

· New approval: Extended to PLA plastic materials and products.

· Restriction: Not permitted in food contact materials intended for infants, due to limited safety data. Safe for other consumer groups.

2. Talc

Already permitted under GB 9685-2016 for use in coatings, rubber, paper, adhesives, and plastics such as PE, PP, and PS.

· New approval: Extended to PHA plastic food-contact materials.

· Conditions of safe use: Room-temperature filling and long-term storage at room temperature.

· Restriction: Not allowed in infant-specific food contact materials due to insufficient safety evidence.

3. Pentaerythritol Tetrakis(3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate)

Previously authorized under GB 9685-2016 for coatings, rubber, adhesives, and plastics such as PE and PP.

· New approval: Extended to PVDF plastic materials and products.

· Function: Acts as an antioxidant, improving PVDF resin’s thermal processing stability.

· Safe use conditions:

o Contact temperature ≤ 70°C

o Single contact duration ≤ 24 hours

o No contact with foods containing free fats

o Ethanol content ≤ 50%

· Population: Considered safe for all user groups under the conditions above.
