EPA Proposes to Add Certain PFAS under Toxic Release Inventory

EPA proposes to add 16 PFAS chemicals and 15 PFAS categories to the TRI list, setting a reporting threshold of 100 pounds for manufacturing, processing and otherwise uses.

On October 8, 2024, The USA’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing a rule to add 16 individually listed per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 15 PFAS categories representing over 100 individual PFAS to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) list of toxic chemicals subject to reporting under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and the Pollution Prevention Act (PPA). EPA is inviting public comment on the proposed rule until December 9, 2024. 

These PFAS are being proposed for inclusion to the TRI based on their toxicity to human health, the environment or both. 

The following 16 chemicals are proposed as individually listed additions to the TRI list:
