Public Consultation on Three New SVHC Candidate Substances Is Started by ECHA

In accordance with the EU’s REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a public consultation on February 28, 2025, to consider recommendations to designate three compounds as compounds of Very High Concern (SVHCs). By April 14, 2025, stakeholders can submit technical or scientific feedback.

Obligations for Companies When Products Contain SVHCs

  1. When SVHCs are supplied separately, give downstream consumers Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  2. If SVHCs are present in mixtures at amounts ≥0.1%, provide SDS.
  3. If SVHCs in articles above 0.1% (w/w), give downstream users or consumers comprehensive information at no cost within 45 days.
  4. If an article contains more than 0.1% (w/w) of a single SVHC and the yearly export volume is more than one ton, notify ECHA within six months.
  5. Since January 5, 2021, submit SCIP notices for goods that contain SVHCs greater than 0.1% in accordance with the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD).
