GHG Protocol Expands Partnerships with Leading Frameworks to Advance Climate Disclosure Consistency

In a move set to significantly enhance consistency across climate reporting frameworks, the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol has expanded its Independent Standards Board (ISB) to include five leading sustainability standard-setters—CDP, EFRAG, GRI, ISSB, and SBTi—as non-voting observers.

Although these organizations will not hold voting rights, they are expected to play a strategic advisory role in shaping future updates and revisions to GHG Protocol standards. This collaboration reflects a broader effort to improve alignment across climate disclosure and target-setting frameworks, streamlining processes for companies navigating increasing regulatory and investor demands.

“This is a vital step towards harmonizing global GHG accounting practices,” the Protocol stated, underscoring the importance of credible and consistent data in meeting climate goals.

For companies, this move promises to simplify GHG reporting, reduce duplication across frameworks, and support more coherent transition planning—helping organizations more effectively respond to intensifying calls for climate accountability from boards, investors, and regulators alike.
