The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has unveiled “Una,” the world’s first AI-powered Environment Champion, aimed at accelerating climate action and renewable energy adoption in four Pacific Island nations — Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Timor-Leste, and Vanuatu.
Una will act as a digital ambassador for the Pacific Green Transformation Project, a 2023 initiative led by UNDP and the Government of Japan. Using AI storytelling, interactive media, and holographic technology, Una will amplify community voices and promote sustainable practices through videos, digital engagements, and global appearances.
“Una represents a breakthrough in communicating the urgency of environmental protection and climate resilience,” said Kanni Wignaraja, UNDP’s Assistant Secretary-General.
Una’s mission is to share the lived experiences of Pacific communities and inspire a global shift towards renewable energy. Her campaign includes documentary-style storytelling, live holographic presentations at international forums, and real-time digital interactions via a dedicated platform.
Positioned as an emblem of “AI for Good,” Una reflects UNDP’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies to support inclusive and impactful environmental action.
