New GRI Digital Taxonomy Enables Automated and Standardized ESG Disclosures

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has introduced its new Sustainability Taxonomy, a digital framework that transforms its full suite of standards—Universal, Sector, and Topic—into machine-readable formats using XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language), the global standard for digital business reporting.

Key Benefits: ·

· Digital Efficiency: Enables structured, machine-readable sustainability reporting, enhancing data collection, comparability, and analysis.

· Global Interoperability: Designed to align with ISSB and ESRS standards, the taxonomy supports cross-border regulatory compliance and harmonized ESG disclosures.

· Enhanced Transparency: Upcoming filing tools and training from the GRI Academy (expected in 2025) will support organizations in producing more reliable, standardized sustainability reports.

Organizations can now submit their disclosures digitally—either programmatically or through user-friendly online forms—making GRI reporting more accessible regardless of company size or technical expertise. By embedding digital consistency and global compatibility, GRI’s taxonomy sets a new benchmark for data-driven, trustworthy, and scalable sustainability reporting worldwide.
