To give producers more time to adhere to regulations that seek to outlaw non-essential PFAS in products by 2032, Minnesota has extended the initial PFAS reporting deadline for items to July 1, 2026.

The initial reporting deadline for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in products has been extended from January 1, 2026, to July 1, 2026, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

The MPCA claims that this six-month extension will enable businesses to:

· Enter contracts with suppliers to report on their behalf, as allowed by the proposed state regulations.

· Becoming acquainted with the PFAS Reporting and Information System of Minnesota (PRISM), a new reporting platform that will be accessible for testing starting in the autumn of 2025.

The Background Information:

· The reporting requirements are a component of Amara’s Law (Minnesota Session Law – 2023, Chapter 60, H.F. No. 2310), which is the main legislative initiative in Minnesota to address PFAS pollution.

· The sale and distribution of several products that contain purposefully added PFAS are prohibited by Amara’s Law, which was passed in May 2023, starting in 2025.

· These products include new carpets, rugs, cleaning supplies, cookware, cosmetics, dental floss, fabric treatments, juvenile products, menstruation products, textile furnishings, ski wax, and upholstered furniture.

· Additionally, it requires manufacturers to notify MPCA of PFAS information in certain products.

· The MPCA put up new regulations pertaining to the PFAS reporting fees and criteria earlier in April 2025.

· Establishing a mechanism for the MPCA to gather data regarding items with purposefully added PFAS is the primary goal of this rulemaking.
