India and Denmark Form Alliance for the Development of Green Fuels

In an attempt to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in the field of sustainable energy solutions and further their shared global objective of being carbon neutral, Denmark has launched the Green Fuels Alliance India (GFAI) program.

The new alliance is a strategic initiative headed by the Danish Embassy and the Consulate General of Denmark in India. Its goal is to promote innovation, collaboration, and partnerships between Danish industries and their Indian counterparts, with the ultimate goal of advancing the Green Fuels sector, including Green Hydrogen.

The principal aim of GFAI is to facilitate the growth of sustainable energy in India by creating an environment that fosters cooperation between companies, governmental bodies, academic institutions, and financial players from Denmark and India.

India Hydrogen Alliance, the Danish Energy Agency, State of Green, and the Energy Consortium of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras are members of the GFAI advisory board.

With India making significant efforts to become carbon neutral by 2070, the GFAI declaration coincides with a propitious historical time. Denmark is headed toward becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and has emerged as the top country in the worldwide Climate Performance Ranking 2024.

The Green Flag Initiative (GFAI) exemplifies initiatives within the Green Strategic Partnership (GSP), which India and Denmark signed in 2020 and which aims to fulfill the partner nations’ aggressive climate commitments.

Key features of the GFAI include:

  1. Has a steering committee made up of Danish companies and run by the Danish Consulate in Bangalore’s Secretariat.
  2. An advisory board made up of thought leaders and professionals in the field will make sure the projects stay cutting edge and relevant to market developments.
  3. Motivated by cooperative projects like the Nation Green Hydrogen Mission, the India-Denmark Energy Partnership, and cooperative research and development activities on green fuels, including green hydrogen.
