IMDS:-IMDS stands for International Material Data System. It is a web-based tool used in the automotive industry for collecting, managing, and sharing material data related to automotive components. IMDS is primarily used to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to promote the use of environmentally friendly materials in the automotive manufacturing process.
And it includes Material Data Management, Regulatory Compliance, Supply Chain Collaboration, Environmental Impact Assessment, Standardization, Data Security
IMDS Release:- It refers to a document that accompanies a new release or version of the software. It provides information about the changes, updates, bug fixes, and new features included in that particular release. Release notes are important for users and administrators to understand what has been modified or improved in the software, helping them adapt to the changes and utilize the new features effectively. The IMDS system’s release notes currently list a great number of versions that have already been made available.
IMDS Release 14.4:- Where the IMDS Model Office Next rollout planned for June 5th, 2024 IMDS Production rollout planned for July 3rd, 2024
And the release do not require an update of the IMDS Advanced Interface(IMDS-AI)
Check Changes:-Checking changes in IMDS refers to the process of reviewing and verifying any modifications or updates made to the International Material Data System (IMDS). This involves ensuring that the changes align with the intended goals, do not introduce errors or inconsistencies, and comply with any relevant regulations or standards. By checking changes in IMDS, users can maintain data accuracy, integrity, and compliance within the system.
MDS Check change:-New warning in case of 8.x materials
A new check will be introduced to analyze MDSs for the presence of material using either classification 8.1 (Electronics) or 8.2 (Electrics). If such a material is present on any level in the MDS (not only direct references), a warning message will be displayed. The classifications 8.1 and 8.2 were deactivated as part of IMDS release 13.0 on May 19th 2021, after which materials with one of these classifications could no longer be created or released.
Impact of Check change of Release 14.4:-
Impact on Existing Data:
- Identification of Potentially Outdated Materials: Material Data Sheets (MDS) referencing materials with the deactivated classes 8.1 or 8.2 will be flagged by the new warning. This aids users in locating perhaps out-of-date information in their IMDS records.
- Improved Data Quality: The new check encourages users to review these resources and update them using the existing classification system, which will result in more consistent and accurate data in IMDS.
Impact on User Workflow:
- Increased Awareness: Users will become more aware of the deactivation of classes 8.1 and 8.2 as a result of the alerts. This can lessen the possibility that future data submissions will inadvertently use these out-of-date classifications.
- Potential Need for Data Review and Update: It may be necessary for users who receive warnings to go over the materials that have been highlighted and update them with the correct current categories. This can include adding a stage to the process of submitting data.
Conclusion
- Improved Data Accuracy: A more dependable and consistent dataset within IMDS is the result of the new check, which encourages the usage of the current classification system and discourages reliance on out-of-date classifications.
- Improved Regulatory Compliance: Businesses can feel more certain about their compliance with applicable rules that depend on correct material data reporting if they make sure their data represents the most recent classification system.
