In February 2023, Malaysia updated its Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order. According to Amendment [P.U. (A) 69/2024], Malaysia will begin prohibiting the importation of 21 types of metal waste and scrap starting May 1, 2024.
Below is the comprehensive list of prohibited metal waste and scrap. Notably, items numbered 4 to 24 have been newly added to the prohibition list through this amendment.
- Ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel
- Copper waste and scrap
- Aluminium waste or scrap
- Nickel waste and scrap
- Lead waste and scrap
- Zinc waste and scrap
- Tin waste and scrap
- Tungsten (wolfram) waste and scrap
- Molybdenum waste and scrap
- Tantalum waste and scrap
- Magnesium waste and scrap
- Cobalt waste and scrap
- Bismuth waste and scrap
- Titanium waste and scrap
- Zirconium waste and scrap
- Antimony waste and scrap
- Manganese waste and scrap
- Beryllium waste and scrap
- Chromium waste and scrap
- Hafnium waste and scrap
- Rhenium waste and scrap
- Thallium waste and scrap
- Cadmium waste and scrap
- Other metal waste and scrap
Please take note that certain recovered (waste and scrap) paper and paperboard cannot be imported into Malaysia unless they meet the requirements of the Fourth Schedule and the Malaysian Standard, or other standards that have been approved by the Malaysian Authorities.
