Following implementation, the QCOs will need the manufacturer to submit an application for a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Grant of License in order to utilise the Standard Mark.
The Department of Chemical and Petrochemicals (DCPC) in India published a notice in the Indian Gazette on August 24, 2024, stating that the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion and Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Homopolymers would be further delayed.
Because of its strength and ability to withstand heat, polypropylene (PP) is a lightweight, chemically resistant material that is frequently used in consumer items, automotive parts, and packaging. Because of its flexibility, durability, and flame retardant qualities, polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, is a versatile material that is widely used in consumer goods, medical equipment, construction, and electrical insulation.
The latest implementation date is set out for the two thermoplastic polymers as follows:
Chemicals intended solely for export are not subject to the QCOs (see here for more information regarding exemptions). Chemical items that meet the Orders’ standards will display the Standard Mark, as granted by the Bureau of Indian Standards’ licence. Any individual who violates the terms of the Orders will face consequences in accordance with the 2016 Bureau of Indian Standards Act (BIS Act).
