I If approved, all proposed IChEMS scheduling decisions would take effect on July 1, 2026.
The Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is seeking public input on the proposed schedules and risk-management measures for 10 industrial chemical groups. The consultation period remains open until December 8, 2025.
Proposed IChEMS scheduling updates
Three groups of industrial chemicals are recommended for inclusion in IChEMS Register Schedule 5, which covers chemicals considered likely to pose environmental harm. Specific prohibitions or restrictions have been outlined for each group in their respective consultation papers. These risk-control measures would apply to both the listed chemicals and any mixtures containing them.

In Australia, their use has significantly declined due to voluntary industry phase-outs. Internationally, usage of chemicals like dibasic lead stearate and dioxobis(stearato)trilead has diminished due to similar phase-outs. Use in the EU and Nordic countries has sharply decreased, aligning with industry commitments to phase out lead-based PVC stabilisers.
