ROHS Compliance

On November 26, 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced that companies may now start submitting their annual microplastic emission reports as required under the EU’s microplastic restriction. The first report, due by May 31, 2026, must include estimated emission data for 2025.

Microplastic Emission Reporting
Annual reporting is mandatory for all uses of synthetic polymer microparticles (SPMs) that are not subject to the ban. This includes their use in human and veterinary medicines, food additives, in-vitro diagnostic devices, and industrial applications. The obligation applies to manufacturers, importers, downstream users, and suppliers who place SPM-containing products on the EU market.

Reports must be prepared in IUCLID and submitted through the REACH-IT system. Key reporting deadlines are:

  • May 31, 2026: For industrial sites using SPMs (pellets, flakes, or powders) as raw materials in plastic manufacturing.

  • May 31, 2027: For all remaining industrial uses and exempted products placed on the market for professional or consumer use.

After these initial deadlines, reporting will occur annually and cover only the previous year’s data. Currently, REACH-IT accepts only first-time submissions; an update function is planned for launch in Q2 2026.
